Husband and wife find out they're brother and sister - and decide to stay together
A woman on a quest to find her long-lost mother was shocked to discover she had unknowingly married her own brother. Brazilians Adriana and her husband Leandro have been in a relationship for around 19 years now and share a daughter. The couple, who chose not to disclose their surnames or faces, had spent their lives attempting to locate their respective mothers, both named Maria, who had abandoned them as infants. Neither could have predicted that the women they were searching for might be one and the same. Adriana, who worked in cosmetics sales, hadn't seen her estranged mother since she was a year old, leaving her father to raise her. Leandro, a lorry driver, raised by his stepmother, knew his mother had also left him in his hometown of Sao Paulo when he was eight. While Leandro stayed in the city, Adriana left their hometown to work as a housemaid, got married for 15 years and had three children. The duo met for the first time more than two decades ago after Adriana's marriage ended and she returned to Sao Paulo. They quickly fell in love and started living together. Determined to find her mother, Adriana reached out to a local radio station for assistance back in 2014. However, at the conclusion of Radio Globo's 'The Time Is Now' programme - which specialises in locating lost relatives - the mother disclosed that she also had a son named Leandro who didn't know her. Upon discovering her husband is also her brother, a distraught Adriana said: "I don't believe that you're telling me this. Leandro is my husband." She added: "Now I'm scared to go home and find out that Leandro doesn't want me anymore. I love him so much." The couple experienced Genetic Sexual Attraction (GSA), which is the phenomenon that happens between “two adults who have been separated during the critical years of development and bonding and are reunited alter as adults,” according to a GSA support forum. Adriana and Leandro, who reportedly never legally tied the knot, told the radio they would remain together, despite the shocking revelation they are in fact siblings. The wife said: "Only death is going to separate us. All this happened because God wanted it to happen. "Of course it would have been different if we had known all this before, but we didn't and we fell in love. We thought it was funny that both our mothers had the same name, but it is a common name so we just thought it was a coincidence. "At first we were really knocked by it all, but we had a family meeting and told everyone that we are going to stay husband and wife, whatever anyone might think. We have so many plans together. Nothing is going to break us up. Nothing." The couple said at the time that they didn't blame their mother for leaving them and had spoken to her several times with plans to meet up together sooner rather than later.
