D-Day set for Winmar’s assault allegations
Mr Winmar was charged with two counts of assault and one count of choking, strangling or suffocating a person without lawful excuse on July 19 last year after an alleged incident the day prior.
The two-time All Australian footballer appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday where the case was set down for a hearing in eight months time.
The 60-year-old appeared via video link as his barrister, Dermott Dann KC, flagged the allegations will be disputed.
Mr Winmar played 251 games over his 12-season career in the AFL and had his iconic stand against racist abuse immortalised in bronze outside Optus Stadium in Perth.
He will return to court on August 11.
