Gabby Logan was forced to leave the latest edition of BBC's Match of the Day on Wednesday night due to a concerning family emergency. The 52 year old presenter began the programme in upbeat spirits, introducing the first highlights package - Bournemouth versus Tottenham - whilst also paying tribute to the late Martin Chivers. Logan also presented the Manchester City against Brighton fixture, but when coverage returned to the studio, Chapman had taken her place in the presenter's chair, having just completed his radio commitments. Explaining the unexpected substitution, he said: "We'll talk about that game [Manchester City v Brighton] in just a moment, sadly Gabby has got a family emergency which she's had to rush off and deal with. So she's gone to do that and I've come from the radio to finish the show." Logan had been working alongside pundits Stephen Warnock and Danny Murphy before needing to leave part way through the broadcast, with Chapman quickly stepping in. The pair typically rotate presenting responsibilities with Sky Sports broadcaster Kelly Cates, with Logan having been chosen to front the midweek fixtures. This comes after Gary Lineker's exit from the show following an impressive 26-year tenure. Logan had presented Match of the Day the previous Sunday, whilst Chapman led the coverage the day before, and Cates handled the midweek programme earlier in the week. The festive period has been packed with Premier League football, resulting in six highlights programmes being broadcast over the past 10 days. Football enthusiasts have taken to social media to voice their thoughts on the presenter change, with many wishing Logan well and commending Champan's professionalism as he stepped into the role after a substantial stint on radio. It was an action-packed evening of Premier League football, with standout moments including last-minute victories for Newcastle United and Bournemouth against Leeds United and Tottenham respectively. Igor Thiago was instrumental in Brentford's triumph, helping them climb to fifth place with a 3-0 victory over Sunderland at the Gtech Community Stadium. Manchester United, under their female manager, also took to the pitch, securing a 2-2 draw away at Burnley, thanks to a double from Benjamin Sesko. Manchester City experienced a setback in their title pursuit when Kaoru Mitoma equalised Erling Haaland's penalty, while Everton saw two players sent off in their 1-1 draw against Wolves. Michael Keane received a red card for pulling Tolu Arokodare's hair, an act considered violent conduct, while Jack Grealish was shown a second yellow for sarcastically applauding the referee's decision to award a foul.
